Inland watercraft sailing into the sea? Heavy penalty!

The design and construction standards of inland watercraft are lower than those of seagoing ships. Since inland river vessels are positioned to navigate inland rivers at the beginning of the design, considering the low level of inland river winds and waves, they do not have high requirements on ship structure, ship navigation instruments and equipment, and the overall design and construction requirements are lower than sea-going vessels. It also determines that the inland watercraft has poor wind and wave resistance and simple equipment, especially the life-saving equipment is far from meeting the life-saving needs of sea navigation.

The hydrological and meteorological conditions in the sea area are more complicated than inland waters. Sea navigation is very windy, especially in tropical cyclones, cold waves and windy seasons. Wind and waves have a higher test on the stability of the ship, and it is prone to waves on the deck. Inland river vessels are susceptible to accidents when sailing in the sea.

The crew of inland watercraft cannot meet the seaworthiness requirements of navigation in the sea. Compared with sea-going ships, inland watercrafts are smaller in size, less equipment, simple to operate, and require lower skill requirements for crew members. At the same time, in the training and assessment process of inland watercraft crews, they are more targeted at the corresponding inland waters, and they do not have the relevant knowledge and ability to navigate in the seas, which is likely to cause accidents.

Intelligent energy saving has become a hot word in marine engineering design

How can the high-speed, lightweight, long-range, energy-saving and environmentally-friendly new materials used in the aerospace industry in the past "take root" in the shipbuilding industry? The era of green, energy saving, and environmental protection is giving birth to the proposition of combining shipbuilding and marine engineering with new polymer materials. At the forum, Jian Xigao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, who is dedicated to the research on organic polymer materials, gave a wonderful speech on the topic of "Research and Development Progress of New Heterocyclic High-performance Engineering Plastics and Its Application Prospects in the Marine Field", sharing the team's scientific research results and transformation use. He expressed that he hopes to use new materials and technologies to promote the application of lightweight materials for marine equipment and the industrialization of high-performance materials, and to improve the level of localization of materials in the field of marine equipment manufacturing.

In the new information era led by artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and 5G, intelligent shipbuilding has become a "hot word" on the forum and has been repeatedly mentioned in expert speeches. "The new generation of shipping system will build the future ship operation mode: shore-based remote driving is the mainstay, and ship-side duty is supplemented. But this requires simultaneous research and exploration of technology, management, and regulations. It is a systematic process..." Chinese Academy of Engineering Yan Xinping, academician and chief professor of Wuhan University of Technology, was on-site video connection with everyone outside the venue to discuss and analyze the status quo of the development of smart ships and the design and thinking of ships facing the needs of smart shipping. Professor Yan Xinping also made no secret that although smart ships have been actively exploring at home and abroad, the demand for artificial intelligence for true surface autonomous ships belongs to the category of strong artificial intelligence, and strong artificial intelligence is still in a bottleneck period, and there are many Problems need to be overcome.
